Pakistan started their World Test Championship journey in impressive fashion with a strong victory over South Africa.

Chasing a target of 277, South Africa were bowled out for 183 in 60.5 overs, as spinners Noman Ali and Sajid Khan, along with pacer Shaheen Afridi, led Pakistan to victory.


Pakistan kicked off their ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025–27 journey in impressive fashion by registering a 93-run victory over reigning champions South Africa in the opening Test at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on Wednesday.


Set a target of 277 runs, South Africa struggled against Pakistan’s disciplined bowling attack and were dismissed for 183 in 60.5 overs. Spin duo Noman Ali and Sajid Khan played a crucial role, while fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi provided key breakthroughs to seal the win.


The chase began poorly for the visitors as skipper Aiden Markram was trapped by Noman Ali after scoring just three runs. The left-arm spinner struck again shortly after, sending Wiaan Mulder back without troubling the scorers, reducing South Africa to 18 for two.


Although Ryan Rickelton and Tony de Zorzi attempted to steady the innings with a brief 33-run stand, Shaheen Afridi broke the partnership early on day four by dismissing de Zorzi for 16. Noman Ali maintained the pressure by removing Tristan Stubbs for just two runs, tightening Pakistan’s grip and guiding them to a well-earned win.
